About Mining Day

Connecting Community, Careers, and the Mining Industry

Thunder Bay Mining Day is a not-for-profit event committed to promoting an understanding of the essential roles mining and mineral exploration play in our region and across Northwestern Ontario. Each year, our signature event at the Thunder Bay Marina brings together community members, industry leaders, and youth to learn, connect, and celebrate mining’s contributions to society, innovation, and local prosperity.

Our mission is to connect people with the opportunities and innovations in mining, promote sustainable practices, and highlight career pathways for young people. We believe that by informing and engaging our community, we can support a vibrant future for the mining sector.

Since it’s inception, Mining Day has grown into a signature event at Thunder Bay’s Marina Park, drawing hundreds each year for hands-on exhibits, industry showcases, and interactive learning experiences for all ages. Our commitment extends beyond the event—through partnerships, sponsorships, and year-round outreach, we continue to inspire curiosity and support the industry’s evolution.

Thunder Bay Mining Day is hosted by volunteers involved in the mining, mineral exploration and related supply and service industries in northwestern Ontario. The lead organization is the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association (NWOPA) with significant support from Women in Mining and the City of Thunder Bay.
